Description

This is a very dim target and most only image in RGB since the SII and OIII are very weak. I previously image this with my ASI1600MM cameras and wanted to image it with my newer generation ASI2600MM-PRO.

Sh2-89 is ionized by two uncatalogued O7 V and B1 V stars. Sh2-86, Sh2-87, Sh2-88 and Sh2-89 are part of the HI supershell GSH 061+00+51. Sh2-89 and Sh2-90 lie at the north-east boundary of the dark nebula LDN 798. The most striking feature is the trunk-like pillar of dust and gas protruding from the east side of the nebula towards the open cluster, NGC 6823 in the west. The center of the open cluster, which is about 50 light-years across, is about two million years old and is dominated in brightness by many young, bright blue stars, packed in a Trapezium-formed region of about 1.3 x 0.7 light-years across. Outer parts of the cluster, involving pillars of the emission nebula, contain even younger stars. The huge pillars of gas and dust are probably formed when surrounding gas and dust is pushed and eroded away by stellar winds and radiation from the brightest cluster stars. Remarkable dark globules of gas and dust (Bok globules) are also visible in the nebula. NGC 6820 is a small reflection nebula near the open clusterNGC 6823 in Vulpecula. The reflection nebula and cluster are embedded in a large faint emission nebula called Sh2-86. The whole area of nebulosity is often referred to as NGC 6820.M27, the Dumbbell Nebula, is found three degrees to the east, and α Vulpeculae three degrees to the west.Open star cluster NGC 6823 is about 50 light-years across and lies about 6,000 light-years away. The center of the cluster formed about two million years ago and is dominated in brightness by a host of bright young blue stars. Outer parts of the cluster contain even younger stars. It forms the core of the Vulpecula OB1stellar association.
